Datify privacy policy
This page explains what the Datify app and website collect, why, who handles it, and how to have it deleted.
Who we are
Datify is a Shopify app made by JadePuma (“JadePuma”, “we”). It checks how complete a store’s product data is, gives the store a Datify score, and suggests improvements such as product categories, product attributes, product types, AI catalog titles and descriptions, and image alt text. This page explains what data Datify handles and what we do with it. It covers the Datify app and the datify-app.com website. JadePuma’s other apps and services are covered by the JadePuma privacy policy.
What Datify collects
When a store installs Datify, Shopify gives us access to the store data the app asks for: products, metaobjects and their definitions, online store navigation, publications (sales channels), the theme (read only), files, and store reports. Datify does not ask for access to customers or orders.
- Store details. The store’s myshopify.com address, the settings and choices made in Datify, and when the app was installed or uninstalled.
- People who use Datify. When someone on the store’s staff opens Datify, Shopify gives us their name, email address, and whether they are the store owner. We also read the store’s name and account email from Shopify when we need to send an email.
- Product catalog data. Product titles, descriptions, images, product types, tags, vendors, categories, attributes (metafields), options, SKUs, SEO titles and descriptions, collections, and whether variants have a barcode. Datify also loads the store’s public product pages to check their structured data. Copies of product data that an AI run needs are kept while the run works and deleted when it finishes. A failed run keeps its copy so it can resume.
- AI suggestions. The suggestions Datify makes for your products and whether you accepted, rejected or edited them.
- Datify score. Your score, the counts behind each part of it (for example, how many products have a description), and one saved copy per month so you can see how the score changes. The score stores counts and percentages, not your product content.
- Store report totals. Store-level totals from Shopify reports, such as sessions, sales, orders, and the number of new and returning customers, including visits from AI shopping channels. These show in the app and in the monthly email. Datify does not save them and never sees which shopper did what.
- Billing and usage. Your Datify plan and charge status, usage limits, how much AI usage a run cost, and notices we sent about usage. Charges are made through Shopify. Datify never sees card or bank details.
- Messages and email addresses you give us. Feedback you send from the app and the reply email you add, email addresses you enter for alerts or taxonomy update emails, conversations with the Datify Assistant (an early access feature), and support conversations and emails.
- Sidekick use. When Shopify Sidekick uses a Datify tool, we record which tool ran, for which store, when, and whether it worked. We do not store what was asked.
- How the app is used. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity record pages viewed, buttons clicked, scrolling and mouse movement, and browser and device details inside the Datify app.
- Free store check on datify-app.com. When someone runs the free store check, we keep the store address they entered, the result, the page they came from, any campaign tags in the link, and a one-way scrambled code made from their IP address. We never store the IP address itself.
Shopper (customer) personal data. Datify does not collect, store or process personal data about a store’s customers. It has no access to customers or orders, and the store report totals it reads contain no individual shopper. The Datify theme app embed adds product information to product pages and collects nothing from visitors.
How we use it
- To run Datify: compute your score, make suggestions, and write the changes you approve to your store.
- To send email: a welcome email from our founder after install, score and monthly report emails, taxonomy update emails you turn on, alerts you set up, and notices about usage and billing. Score, monthly report and taxonomy update emails have an unsubscribe link.
- To give support and answer feedback. Our team can look at a store’s Datify data to help with a question or fix a problem.
- To understand and improve Datify, using the usage data above and our own records of AI costs and Sidekick tool use.
- To publish aggregated statistics, as described below.
We do not sell data and we do not use it for advertising.
Who processes it
These companies process data for us to run Datify:
- Heroku (Salesforce) runs the Datify servers and background workers, in the United States. All data Datify handles passes through it, including server logs.
- MongoDB Atlas (MongoDB, Inc.) is the database for all the data Datify stores.
- OpenAI makes AI suggestions for categories, product types, attributes and AI catalog titles and descriptions, and is the backup for image alt text. It receives product titles, descriptions, vendors, product types, tags, options, SKUs, collections, categories, attribute values, existing alt text and product images. AI catalog content is sent without prices or barcodes. No staff or shopper data is sent.
- OpenRouter, and the model provider it sends each request to, writes image alt text. It receives one image at a time with the product title, vendor, product type, category, tags, options, part of the description and existing alt text. For images on the Files page, it receives the file name and existing alt text.
- Anthropic powers the Datify Assistant chat (early access only). It receives your messages to the Assistant and the catalog data it looks up to answer, such as product titles, descriptions, categories and attributes.
- Google Cloud (Pub/Sub) receives Shopify’s notices that a product changed: the product ID and the time of the change only.
- Resend sends Datify emails. It receives the recipient’s email address and name, the store name, and the email content, such as your score and report totals.
- Google Workspace hosts our email inboxes, including emails you send us.
- Zendesk provides the support chat inside the app. It receives what you type, any name or email you give, and browser and device details.
- Google Analytics (Google) and Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft) measure how the app is used. They receive page activity, clicks, scrolling, mouse movement, and browser and device details. Page addresses can include the store’s myshopify.com address. You can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Shopify itself provides the platform Datify runs in, processes Datify charges, and runs Sidekick.
Nothing is sent to an AI provider until you start an AI run or use the Assistant.
How long we keep it
- Staff login details (name and email) are deleted as soon as you uninstall Datify.
- AI suggestions, accepted, rejected or not yet decided, are kept while Datify is installed. Some older accepted or rejected suggestions are removed automatically after 180 days.
- Working copies of product data for AI runs are deleted when the run finishes. A failed run keeps its copy so it can resume, until we clean it up or you uninstall.
- Records of Sidekick tool use and failed product change notices are kept for a limited time, and never longer than you have Datify installed.
- Your score, monthly score history, settings, Assistant conversations, billing and usage records are kept while Datify is installed.
- Copies held by the companies above follow each company’s own terms.
When a store uninstalls Datify, everything above that belongs to that store is deleted within about 48 hours, as described next.
Your rights and deletion
- Uninstall. When you uninstall Datify, we immediately delete your store’s login sessions (including staff names and email addresses) and stop scheduled work such as weekly image alt text. About 48 hours later Shopify asks us to erase the store’s data, and we delete all of it: AI suggestions and runs, score and score history, settings, Assistant conversations, billing and usage records, alert settings, email recipients, and the store record itself.
- Customer data requests. Shopify sends apps a request when a shopper asks a store for their data or asks for it to be deleted. Datify stores no shopper data, so there is nothing to return or delete, and we confirm the request to Shopify.
- Emails. Use the unsubscribe link in score, monthly report and taxonomy update emails. Turn alerts and taxonomy update emails off in Datify’s settings.
- Access, correction and deletion. To get a copy of your store’s Datify data, correct it, or have it deleted without uninstalling, email us at the address below. We answer within 30 days.
- Staff. If you work for a store that uses Datify, your name and email come from Shopify. Ask the store owner or email us.
- If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or California, you also have the rights your local law gives you, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Aggregated statistics
We may compute and publish aggregated, de-identified statistics from product catalog data across many stores, for example the average share of products with a barcode, or average Datify scores. Published statistics never name a store, never include store domains, and never show a group of fewer than 10 stores. No customer (shopper) personal data is used for them. Statistics that are already published contain no store-level data, so they stay as they are when a store uninstalls.
This website
datify-app.com is a Shopify-hosted store. Like any Shopify site, it uses cookies and similar technology that Shopify needs to serve pages and keep the site secure. If you use the contact form, we receive the details you enter and use them to reply. The free store check is described above.
Children
Datify is made for merchants and is not meant for children. We do not knowingly collect information about anyone under 16.
Changes to this page
If we change what Datify collects or how we use it, we will update this page and change the date at the top. For a material change, we will also email the store owner.
